Objective

This program provides skills to grant the student entry into skin care, hair removal, makeup profession and provide the foundation on how to properly protect the client to meet the public with confidence and assurance while making a significant contribution to the profession of skin care.

Description

This program is dedicated to train our students in the principles and practices of skin care, hair removal and spa training. The course is dedicated to the personal guidance of its students to provide adequate and appropriate preparation for success in their profession.

Instructional Methods

The theory portion of Facial Specialist is designed for the instructor to review each chapter on a weekly rotating schedule. In our Facial Specialist program, the theory portion of the program is integrated with the practical skills. The following instructional methods are used to present theory and practical lessons:

• Drill and Practice – Hands on step by step practical demonstration and repetitive use

• Visual Aids such as handouts, video/DVD, flashcards, mannequins

• Discussion – small group, debates, lecture, role playing, guided and assisted reading

• Laboratory groups, field trips, clinic work

• Guest lecturers and educators.

Course Description

  • Procedures, Precautions that include, but are not limited to wearing gloves when in contact with body fluids, learning how to properly disinfect, sterilization procedures for equipment, linens, etc. will be discussed.

  • Students are taught the requirements of the state of Florida as prescribed by the department of business and professional regulation. The rules and regulations are presented in lecture and open class discussion, so each student becomes familiar with the laws and rules governing the field of skin care.

  • Students are taught the regulations regarding sanitation, disinfection and sterilization as well as how to perform these mandatory processes

  • Students are prepared for the professional environment they will encounter in the workplace. The importance of a consistently polished appearance, pleasant manners and good communication skills are emphasized as mandatory to their success throughout the training program and in specific sessions with our director of career success.

  • This unit will give the student technical knowledge to grasp the fundamental properties and behavior of electricity and its role in skin care

  • Students are taught both the techniques and theories of various facial treatments which are the core procedures a skin care facial specialist executes. Students are taught a variety of manual hand techniques used in facial massage and tonic of the face and neck students are taught both the theory and techniques of peels. Both The theory and application of various types of masks are taught. 

  • Students will be introduced to the basics of chemistry and given a clear understanding of the effects of the major ingredients of skin care products on the skin. This training will enable the practitioner to determine the appropriateness of any product, for a specific application, based on the ingredient list stated on the product container

  • This course focuses on waxing techniques for the face and body using soft and hard wax as well as tweezing and shaping of the brows. This course is hands on learning and practice 

  • Students will be instructed in the following areas in the makeup portion of the program: color theory & analysis, facial features & shapes, client consultation, tools & product instruction, corrective & camouflage, contouring and highlighting, lip color, shapes and correction. 

  • Students will be instructed in color theory & analysis, facial features and shapes, camouflage and corrective makeup, client consultation and tools and product instruction  

  • This course teaches students to tint eyebrows and eyelashes using safe professional products. This course is hands-on and practice.

  • Students learn to apply individual lashes and lash bonds. This course is hands on and practice 

  • Students are taught how to safely extract comedowns. This course is hands on and practice 

Completion Time Days

  • Full time students may attend 30 hours per week for 8 weeks.

  • Part time schedule is available – minimum 12 hours per week.

Evaluation

Students take theory quizzes on theory work. Progress tests are given at 120 and 240 hours which evaluates each student on theory, services completed and practical application of their work. Students are notified prior to these progress tests as to their need to be prepared. An 80% average in each skill must be met. Students will receive diplomas upon satisfactory completion of all course work, lab work and tests.

Payment Schedule*

The student has the option of paying the tuition costs:

1. In full prior to attending the first class, or

2. Paying the unpaid balance in equal weekly or monthly installments.

* All students must schedule an appointment with Admissions to complete the license application.

* License Registration Fee (payable to the state) is due upon graduation.
